How to Brew the Perfect Cup of Tea at Home

At 27Teas, we love helping people  upgrade their tea game — from dusty tea bags to the fresh, flavorful world of loose leaf. We know it can seem a little intimidating at first, but trust us: It’s easier (and way more fun) than it looks. Our packaging has clear instructions; every order comes with a handy “getting started” card, and our Instagram is full of tips — even for brewing without any fancy tools.

Unlike coffee, which often requires a countertop full of gadgets, a great cup of tea just needs hot water and a basic $5 tea ball.

The two golden rules? Time + Temperature.

Start by measuring your tea — no eyeballing! Use the suggested water temperature from your tea’s packaging and steep for the recommended amount of time. Too long = bitter tea. Too hot = scorched leaves. Use a timer, and when it dings, take out your infuser. Easy.

Pro tip: Water quality matters. If your tap water tastes weird, so will your tea. Filtered water makes a difference.

Bonus magic: Re-steep!

Many loose leaf teas can be steeped more than once, so don’t toss those leaves. Our basket infusers even come with a tray for a tidy second cup later in the day.

No tools? No problem.

Let the tea steep loose in your mug, then strain it into another cup using a kitchen colander or cheesecloth. A French press works beautifully, too!

Pro tip: Making matcha and missing a whisk? Pop the matcha and water into a jar, screw the lid on, and shake it like a cocktail shaker.

Let tea be easy and fun! It is the perfect opportunity to take a moment out of your busy day to relax and unwind.

Iced tea lovers, we see you.

Did you know 80% of tea in the U.S. is enjoyed iced? Try cold brewing: Place loose-leaf tea in an infuser, drop it in a glass of cold water and stash it in the fridge overnight. Wake up to a perfectly smooth, refreshing glass of iced tea. No boiling required.
