The Ghosts of The Little Grille
The staff at The Little Grille in Littleton all agree... it's a more than a little haunted
In the small town of Littleton, New Hampshire, there’s a popular restaurant called The Little Grille. It wasn’t always a restaurant; it used to be an old train station more than 150 years ago. Now, people come here to enjoy delicious Mexican, American, and Brazilian food, but some say they get more than just a meal… They may also get a visit from a ghost, or two!
The hard working staff at The Little Grille have plenty of spooky stories to share about the friendly spirits that seem to wander around the restaurant. The most prominent ghost is a tall, thin man, dressed in a long black jacket and a newsboy hat. He’s often seen walking by the bar area, but here’s the catch—he doesn’t walk through doors like regular people. He appears suddenly, walks by the busy staff, and then disappears right through the wall!
One worker recalled a chilling moment. “I was cleaning up one night, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw a man walk by. At first, I thought someone had come in, but then I realized that he just vanished! That’s when I knew it was the ghost.” The ghostly man is usually spotted late at night when the restaurant is closing, or early in the morning when staff are getting ready for the day.
He doesn’t seem to mean any harm. He’s just… there. Some believe he might have been a train conductor, checking the platform for passengers or making sure everyone had their tickets.
And it’s not just the tall man. There is also a mischievous little boy ghost who likes to peek around corners! The staff sometimes catch a glimpse of him out of the corner of their eyes, popping his head out like he’s curious about what they’re up to.
Then there’s something strange in the bathroom, too. Both staff and customers have heard sounds coming from the stalls, but when they check, no one’s there. Some people have even seen a tall shadowy figure in the bathroom mirror!
But the spookiest part of The Little Grille might just be the basement. The stairs leading down to the storage area always make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, and there’s a long, narrow hallway that feels… off. One of the bartenders said, “You just never feel quite alone down there.” He even gave the ghost a name, Francis.
Another bartender shared a baffling experience. “It was just me and one cook left and we were closing up late at night. When we were leaving, I realized I forgot something, so I went back real quick. I thought I heard someone in the kitchen, and then I heard the fridge open and shut and open. I called out, but no one answered. When I checked, the fridge door was wide open. Now, it’s a heavy fridge too! I shut the door and ran out. It felt like someone was right there with me.”
Even though the staff aren’t scared, they are definitely curious about who these ghosts might be and why they stick around. Maybe they’re still checking in on their old train station home, or perhaps they’re just hungry. After seeing the restaurant’s menu, it’s easy to see why they wish to be there. They’re dying to eat there.
