NH Eats Local Month: Week Two
Celebrate eating local by picking or harvesting your own fruits and vegetables

Pick your own blueberries at Berrybog Farm in Strafford.
Now that summer is in full swing, there’s no better way to celebrate than by getting outside and taking in the produce, baked goods, meat and flowers of your local farmers market. New Hampshire Eats Local Month is happening August 1-31, so we sat down to talk with NH Food Alliance Communications Coordinator Colleen Stewart to learn more about what is going on during the second week.
What do you have on tap for this week?
Colleen: “We’re heading into the second week of NH Eats Local Month with so much eat local buzz! Last week we saw so many amazing farmers market and farm stand hauls shared by local eaters across the state. We even saw how some of the produce and local products found at markets and farm stands turned into some amazing dishes at home.
The editors at NH Magazine selected the four contest entries below as the winners of Week #1 of our NH Eats Local Month Photo Contest. They will receive prizes from NH Gleans, NH Community Seafood, Post and Beam Brewing, and Littleton Food Cooperative. The winners are @meageileen, @ccpowers18, @thehartland and @mfishman7.
This week, we are focusing on another eat local activity— picking or harvesting your own local fruit and vegetables. So much of the Granite State’s bounty is in-season right now and one of the best ways to experience it is getting out into the field and harvesting it yourself. While you’re out there, enter our NH Eats Local Month Photo Contest by snapping a photo of your pick-your-own adventure, post it on Facebook or Instagram, and tag @nheatslocal. Our prizes this week are a bottle of Culinary Sunflower Oil from Coppal House Farm, a standard, 1-year Membership to NOFA-NH, a t-shirt and hat from Sweet Beet Market, and a 5-pound, whole organic, pasture-raised chicken from Templeton Family Organics. Find more information and contest rules here.
