Brian Quirk is recognized as a top lawyer in Criminal Defense: White-Collar Law
We selected eight of the best lawyers from around the state for portraits and asked them to share a favorite quotation and to tell us why they love what they do. These profiles appeared along with Woodward/White’s annual Best Lawyers in America list, as published in our November issue.
“Failing to prepare, is preparing to fail.”
— Ben Franklin
“For individuals who are the target of criminal investigations or who have been charged, it’s important to have counsel that understands not only the law but also the process including how decisions are made to provide effective representation. Sometimes that means taking a case to trial, but approximately 95% of federal criminal cases, and a similar percentage for state cases, are resolved by some type of plea agreement. As a result, to be an effective defense attorney in today’s environment, one must be able to advocate to prosecutors in a compelling, sympathetic and effective way to achieve the most favorable outcome for clients. It is important to get to know your client, understand how they have come to the position that they’re in, and work with them to achieve their goals, which vary from case to case.”
