Think Pink, Drink Local: Moat Mountain Brewing Company Raises a Glass to Breast Cancer Awareness

Scottie's IPA gets a colorful makeover for October, proving that a little pink can go a long way toward supporting an important cause

UnknownOctober is known for many things in New Hampshire: brilliant foliage, crisp autumn afternoons, scenic drives through the White Mountains and, of course, some terrific locally brewed beer.

But this October, one North Conway brewery is adding a little something unexpected to the seasonal color palette: pink.

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Moat Mountain Brewing Company has introduced a limited-edition version of its popular Scottie’s IPA, trading its familiar packaging for an eye-catching pink design as part of a special campaign called “Scottie’s Goes Pink.”

And while the colorful cans are certainly getting attention, the message behind them is what makes this release particularly meaningful.

A Familiar Favorite With a New Look

For craft beer enthusiasts throughout the Mount Washington Valley and beyond, Scottie’s IPA needs little introduction.

As one of Moat Mountain’s established offerings, the unfiltered American India Pale Ale has become a favorite among those who appreciate a well-balanced, hop-forward beer.

Brewed with a combination of American and Australian hops, Scottie’s IPA offers aromas of melon, lemon and grapefruit, complemented by subtle notes of pine and tropical fruit. The addition of oats provides a smooth mouthfeel, balancing the beer’s bitterness and delivering a clean, dry finish.

At 6.3% alcohol by volume, it’s a flavorful IPA that has earned its place among the brewery’s year-round selections.

For October, however, it’s what’s on the outside of the can that’s helping tell a different story.

The limited-edition pink packaging is designed to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual observance dedicated to increasing awareness of breast cancer, encouraging early detection and supporting those affected by the disease.

It’s a simple but effective idea: Take a beer that people already enjoy and use its packaging to help start a conversation about something that matters.

Brewing With a Purpose

The Scottie’s Goes Pink campaign is about more than a temporary change in packaging.

According to information provided about the promotion, a portion of proceeds from the limited-edition release will support breast cancer awareness and related efforts.

That charitable component gives customers another reason to seek out the special cans during October.

Breast cancer touches countless New Hampshire families, whether through a personal diagnosis or the experiences of a friend, family member, coworker or neighbor.

For those navigating treatment, supporting a loved one or remembering someone lost to the disease, Breast Cancer Awareness Month carries a significance that extends far beyond pink ribbons.

It’s also an opportunity for businesses and communities to demonstrate their support.

From fundraising walks and community events to special promotions and charitable partnerships, October provides countless opportunities for Granite Staters to come together around a shared cause.

Moat Mountain’s pink-can campaign offers one more way for a local business to participate in that effort.

And because Scottie’s IPA is already a recognizable part of the brewery’s lineup, the special packaging can help bring the awareness message to customers who might not otherwise encounter a traditional fundraising campaign.

A Little Pink in the White Mountains

Located in North Conway, Moat Mountain Brewing Company has long been part of the Mount Washington Valley’s craft beer and hospitality scene.

Known for its Smokehouse & Brewing Co. restaurant and its selection of locally brewed beers, the company has established a presence among both year-round residents and visitors exploring the White Mountains.

The Scottie’s Goes Pink release brings a charitable dimension to that local connection.

The pink cans are being offered as a limited-run release, with availability in the Mount Washington Valley and surrounding distribution areas while supplies last.

For visitors heading north to enjoy the fall foliage, or locals stopping by their favorite beverage retailer, the special cans provide an opportunity to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month while supporting a New Hampshire brewery.

And with the release available only for a limited time, those hoping to pick up the pink cans shouldn’t wait too long.

More Than Just a Pretty Can

There’s something particularly fitting about a New Hampshire brewery using one of its signature beers to support an important cause.

After all, community involvement doesn’t always require a major event or elaborate fundraiser. Sometimes it begins with a familiar product, a creative idea and a willingness to make a difference.

With Scottie’s Goes Pink, Moat Mountain Brewing Company is demonstrating how a small change in packaging can carry a much larger message.

“Breast cancer has hit close to home for a lot of us here at Moat Mountain,” says Stephen Johnson, founder and president of Moat Mountain Smokehouse & Brewing Co. “We’ve had family members, friends and people close to us go through it, so it’s something that means a great deal to us personally. The reality is, just about everyone knows someone who has been affected by this disease. We wanted to do something with Scotty’s IPA that goes beyond just putting a pink label on a beer. We wanted to use what we do every day to help support a cause that really matters. If we can raise awareness, give back, and help contribute to the research and work being done to find a cure, then we’re doing something worthwhile. At the end of the day, it’s about taking care of people, supporting our community, and doing our small part to make a difference.”

So, as the mountains turn brilliant shades of red, orange and gold this October, keep an eye out for a little pink among the seasonal colors.

It’s a reminder that even something as simple as a can of locally brewed beer can help bring attention to a cause that affects so many of our neighbors.

Here’s to good beer, great communities and making a difference, one pink can at a time.
