Hollis Strawberry Festival
June 22, 2 p.m.- 4 p.m.
Monument Square, Hollis
Presented by the Hollis Town Band and the Hollis Woman’s Club, this has been an annual event since shortly after the band got started. The earliest newspaper reference to the Strawberry Festival was in 1946. The Hollis Town Band was originally founded in 1943 as the Hollis Church School Band, before there was instrumental music in the public school. Originally the Strawberry Festival was run entirely by the Hollis Church School Band families but by 1978 it had grown too large to be handled just by one organization and the Hollis Woman’s Club stepped in to help. This is one of the major fund-raisers for the organizations, each of which offers scholarships and supports other community endeavors.  The Hollis Town Band currently has seventy members on its roster coming from eighteen different communities.  The band members gather every Wednesday evening to rehearse throughout the year and there is no membership fee to join. There is something special about the town of Hollis and the band itself which makes it an important part of people’s lives.
