Freshly Distilled White Mountain Moonshine
Freshly Distilled
Flag Hill Winery and Distillery has added moonshine to their roster of spirits that includes Karner Blue Gin, General John Stark Vodka, Josiah Bartlett Brandy plus a number of fruit and maple liqueurs.
Moonshine is by definition un-aged bourbon. After two years of aging, Flag Hill will bottle the product, now transformed into bourbon. The "white whiskey" will gain its golden hues through the storage in charred oak barrels.
The White Mountain Moonshine was distilled from a 75-percent corn mash with a few other grains, including barley and rye. As a 90-proof drink, Flag Hill owner Frank Reinhold suggests sipping it neat: "We have experimented with a few cocktail recipes and it has stood up well in mixed drinks too."
For now the Moonshine is a novelty product only sold at the winery tasting room open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. year- round with the exception of major holidays.
