This upcoming Monday, April 22 is Earth Day! From family friendly activities, to road and beach clean-ups to festivals and more, there are dozens of ways you for you to celebrate our planet this weekend. We only have the one, so make sure you give it a little love! We’ve put together a sampling of Earth Day events from around the state, but there are dozens more in each town. Make sure to check out your community pages and town websites to see what your community is doing to celebrate the Earth.
Seacoast:
Earth Day Beach Cleanup
April 20, 11 a.m.- noon
Seacoast Science Center

Following the Rescue Run, join Blue Ocean Society for a beach cleanup here at Odiorne Point State Park. Please see their website to register. They provide all the supplies!
Earth Day Celebration

The Children’s Museum of NH

Join the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire for a day full of Earth loving fun! They have so many drop-in activities planned, all included with museum admission. During the celebration, you can plant some marigolds to take home (generously donated by Wentworth Greenhouses!), create Earth-friendly crafts and spring themed drop-in activities, get a tree sapling from Bartlett Tree Service during the morning play session, learn about Replenish Refillery of Dover, complete an Earth Day-themed Scavenger Hunt and more!
Merrimack Valley:
NH Audubon Earth Day Celebration
April 20, 10 a.m.- 3 p.m.
NH Audubon Massabesic Center

This year, NH Audubon celebrates Earth Day at the Massabesic Center in Auburn with a special display and presentation by The Caterpillar Lab, located in Marlborough. Join them for a full day of Planet vs. Plastic family-friendly fun! The day will start with an Early Morning Bird Search, then learn about recycling, how to support wildlife through gardening, improve your photography techniques and discover how to photograph wildlife safely, and build a Carolina Wren nest box. Stay for the afternoon and see their Ambassador Red-tailed Hawk, learn about the lifecycle of how caterpillars survive to become moths and butterflies, and end the day with an Afternoon Nature Hike.
Earth Day Exhibition 2024- A Nature Inspired Show

Each year, NH Audubon holds a day-long, family-friendly Earth Day celebration at the Massabesic Center. As a part of the 2024 celebration, the Center is partnering with the League of NH Craftsmen to feature original work from League artists in a special two-month exhibition which includes photography, prints, and fiber art. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy nature-themed artwork produced by some of New Hampshire’s finest craftsmen, displayed in the peaceful setting of this beautiful wildlife sanctuary. A reception hosted by the League, and open to the public, will be held on April 21 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m.

Monadnock Earth Day Festival

Downtown Keene
The annual Monadnock Region Earth Day Celebration celebrates some of the many things that make this region special: a commitment to ever-greater sustainability, healthy communities for all, and preserving and sustaining our planet, which is increasingly threatened by the impacts of climate change. With over 70 local vendors, a Keene clean-up, food and more, this Earth Day event is one you won’t want to miss!

Get ready for a fun, gluten-free Earth Day celebration! Learn how to make edible and adorable cupcakes that look like little plants growing in terracotta pots. You will bake 8 gluten-free cupcakes in terracotta pots, make a dairy free or regular frosting, and make edible dirt from cake crumbs. This class requires participants to stand, bake, and work for most of the class. Please wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and have long hair tied back.

Celebrate Earth Day by doing your part to help clean-up Hanover! First, you’ll need to pick up your blue bags from Etna Post Office, RWB Community Center, Main St. Mascoma Bank and the Hanover Town Office, and then you may go forth and collect trash from the roads and trails as you go about your day! When your bags are full, town trucks will be located at the following locations for collection sites: Etna Church, Hanover Center Church, RWB Community Center and Ray School parking lots. Bags can also be left alongside the road or trailhead where you cleaned up and town staff will pick them up as they are out and about.

The 14th annual Earth Day event is finally here! Families can come to the Theater in the Wood and enjoy a live performance of Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax.” There will be an appearance and photo opportunity with the Lorax himself, and following the performance, families are welcome to visit the 100-Acre Wood Sugar Shack. As whimsical as all Dr. Seuss tales, “The Lorax” contains key messages regarding the destructive nature of deforestation yet highlights the positive roles that every individual can play in the fight against destructive forces.
