The Kalled Gallery in Wolfeboro

Jennifer Kalled of Wolfeboro is well known for her bold and extravagant necklaces. The gold metal work flows like water around colored "rocks" and precious stones where each gem seems to have its own story to tell.

Kalled says, "I love rocks, and figuring out how to lay them together." She intermingles the sublime – small diamonds – with the ridiculous – meteorites and blazing opals.

Australian opal is her personal favorite. She notes that in ancient times opals were highly prized because of their wide range of color and the light that refracts from inside the stone. Yes, clearly they are more beautiful than a simple diamond. De Beers has it all wrong.

Kalled is in demand across the US in high-end craft fairs from NYC to Los Angeles. She admits that she even does well in her own gallery in Wolfeboro. "But not everyone likes mywork," she admits. "It takes a powerful woman. She is making a statement that she supports the arts and has the confidence to wear a bold piece."

But fortunately there are Kalled pieces for the more timid too. The simpler work shown above is created with druzy, a type of quartz that coats the insides of geodes. She often works with druzy that has been thinly plated with gold or silicone, adding a warm tone or iridescence.

Kalled's work ranges from $500 to $18,000 and is available at her artisan gallery in Wolfeboro and the Meredith League of New Hampshire Craftsmen shop.
