Non-Vintage Sparkler for Summer

Gruet Blanc de Noirs is a sparkling wine produced in New Mexico by the siblings of a French wine-maker who decided to expand operations to the southwestern state's rugged beauty. It was not such an odd choice. The cool nights slow down the growth and maturation of the grapes, giving them time to develop more character.

With the second fermentation in the bottle — méthode champenoise — the Gruet sparklers have long-lasting small bubbles that help deliver the layered toasty and fruity flavors to the tongue. It's aged two years before release.

Summer is a great time to celebrate on the patio or deck with an impressive wine, with less of the mineral taste associated with French Champagne. Gruet Blanc de Noirs is a perfect accompaniment to just about all outdoor dining. To put a little more French in the glass, add a splash of DeKuyper Crème de Cassis for a Kir Royale. ($8.99 a liter)
