Little Tastes for Your L.O.
Little Duck Organics, a new line of healthy snack food for little ones ages six months to three years, has just been put on area store shelves. I recently sat down with Zack Normandin, the owner and developer, to ask him about this attractively packaged product. He says,“While looking for healthy snacks for my own children I could only find products made by corporate giants that contained unnecessary additives and preservatives.” So he and his wife Kathleen decided to act fast.
Because of the obvious lack of healthy choices in the national marketplace, the couple decided to produce a product made of one ingredient — organic fruit. By using a freeze-dry process the snack does not need sugar-based additives or artificial preservatives, but will stay fresh for up to 18 months.
Little Duck Organics has been in the process of development for about a year. It has been a giant learning process for this husband and wife team; food production, Web site development and design, getting store leads for distribution and, most importantly, how to certify actual organic status of the ingredients. They came up with the name Little Duck Organics because they wanted a cute, yet memorable brand.
The future looks bright for Little Duck — the owners have used social media sites to promote the re-sealable pouches of Apple/Banana, Blueberry/Apple and Strawberry/Mango, and recently offered free samples through a few Internet sites that cater to moms. Thirty thousand requests were made in one day. I received a sample myself and my friend’s 16-month-old, Alex, tasted the varieties — he squawked in a high pitch to get his bowl of Strawberry/Mango refilled.
Little Duck Organics will expand the product line to include a summer flavored fruit mix in time for the Expo East to formally introduce the product to the national market.
Pouch of 3/8 sized cubed 100 percent organic fruit mix: $3.99. You can purchase Little Duck Organics at either natural food stores throughout N.H. at www.littleduckorganics.com or through Amazon.
