Fashion designer Leslie Kane of Intervale has created tailored jackets in linen and brocade for women, but recently took off into a more playful arena. Using a pattern she developed to fit all body types, she sews aprons for happy homemakers. Big flower designs are contrasted with geometric prints — all in washable and sturdy cotton fabrics. A bit of ric rac trim adds that touch of nostalgia — remember sewing class?
Kane finds interesting fabrics at shows in New York City or where ever she is traveling. “If I like it, I grab it,” she says. Anyone who cooks needs an apron so why not one that adds a design statement from the past with modern fabrics?
Having a new granddaughter inspired Kane to develop a line of matching aprons sets for mothers, daughters (ages 6 to 10) and dolls (American Girl) in a variety of colors and patterns. Find her work at The Local Grocer in North Conway but call ahead as quantities may be limited.
