Classic Cakes by Becky Johnson

A book of cake recipes popular in the 1950s

Becky Johnson of Laconia thought about all those recipes her mother and grandmother made and cataloged on index cards and scraps of paper. What better way to honor memories than to compile a book of classic cake recipes that were popular in the 1950s? She tested several versions until her memory said yes, this is the one. Her book includes 50 heritage cake recipes, along with a full-color photographs and a brief history of their origin.

Classics include Creole Beauty Cake, Scottish Dundee, Plantation Marble Cake, Pineapple Upside Down Cake and Becky’s favorite, Chocolate Icebox Cake, made with cookies and pudding and kept in the refrigerator overnight. While box cakes can be  pretty good, it is more fun and more fresh to make a cake from scratch. At least you know what is in it and there are no preservatives.

"Memories: Vintage Cake Recipes” is available locally and on Amazon.com, where an excerpt can be viewed online.
