Beer Ice Cream Combines Sweets and Suds

New flavors from Chris' Wicked Ice Cream feature Kelsen Brewing Company beers as the main ingredient

We all scream for beer ice cream… that’s if you are over 21. Yes, Chris’ Wicked Ice Cream includes a generous flavoring of beer — local Kelsen beer. Originator Chris Perry has years of ice cream-making experience, but two years ago he developed his own brand with beer as the flavoring agent. His pints, in sweet cream and chocolate, are flavored with a range of Kelsen beers, including their Draken Robust Porter, Paradigm Brown Ale, Battle Axe IPA and Vendel Imperial Stout with a double alcohol content. Pints ($6) are available at local specialty beer shops, including Lazy Dog, The Beer Store, Bert’s Better Beers and the Kelsen Brewing Company in Derry.

Better yet, Perry is opening his own wine and beer bottle shop, called Barley & Hops, at the Lorden Plaza in Milford. In addition to craft beers, there will be an adult dessert bar in back. Yes, you will be carded. Step right up to be served Chris’ Wicked Ice Cream in bowls, banana splits, cones, fudge pops and even a chocolate-dipped bacon bowl. What you won’t find is shakes and floats; that would require a different license. Of course, you can always buy the ice cream and the matching beer and enjoy several beer floats at home.
