“Untamed” Comes to Canobie Lake Park
Want to be scared silly?
If you’re a roller coaster enthusiast, you’ve gotta try “Untamed”
Sure, the kids in the promotional picture look cool and calm, but are they actually riding the new roller coaster at Canobie Lake Park in Salem? We think not.
A ride on the aptly-named “Untamed” starts with a dizzying 72-foot vertical lift into the air followed by a free-fall drop at 97 degrees, which means the track goes past vertical. And then that’s followed by a quick series of loops, twists and zero-gravity rolls (see above).
How much straight track is there? “None,” says Chris Nicoli, marketing and entertainment manager at Canobie. “It’s quite a wild ride.”
The roller coaster is one of only four like it in the country and the only one in New England, and it’s attracting thrill-seekers from far and wide.
Despite the intensity, Nicoli says it’s still a family ride, with children allowed on if they’re taller than 48 inches.
The ride only lasts a minute. And that, says Nicoli, is “quite enough.”
