Unlucky in Love Anti-Valentine's Day Event
Unlucky in love? Share your heartbreak at this anti-Valentine's Day "pop-up museum" at The Market at Luca's in Keene
This year the day before Valentine’s Day is the dreaded Friday the 13th. While most of us try to ignore its looming spectre, the Historical Society of Cheshire County is celebrating it by giving people time and space to share their unlucky-in-love experiences, whatever they might be.
The venue for the sharing is a “pop-up museum” at The Market at Luca’s in Keene. “A pop-up museum is a temporary exhibit created by the people who show up,” says Jennifer Carroll, education director of the Society. “It usually lasts a couple of hours. Basically, it’s to bring people together to share their stories. It’s a glorified show and tell for adults.”
As it is with show and tell, the pop-up museum participants bring an object that illustrates their unlucky-in-love experience. A never-worn engagement ring, perhaps? A menu from a once-favorite restaurant? A piece of artwork that tells the story?
“We use the objects as a starting point,” Carroll says. The Society provides empty frames and mounts for the objects, and they’ll be displayed for the duration of the event.
Even if you don’t have anything to share, you’re welcome at the event. Carroll says the point is the get the Society out in the community and make people feel their experiences are part of its history.
It all starts at 7 p.m. on the 13th. Click here for more information.
