Traditions Restaurant at Lake Sunapee Country Club

Review of LSCC Restaurant

Everything old is new again. Joshua Duda is back at Lake Sunapee Country Club. It's been about 10 years since Chef Josh left the Sunapee region for Simon Pierce in Quechee, Vermont. Happy to be back, he is hard at work transforming and upgrading the menus at LSCC's Traditions Restaurant. Josh promises to bring his passion for fresh local products to Traditions.

Service is leisurely and friendly. Not necessarily the place for a cozy romantic dinner, Traditions is perfect for small groups and families. A recent dinner at Traditions showed us that Josh has begun to make progress in the kitchen. Known for his eclectic mix of dishes, Asian-inspired confit duck and maple miso glazed salmon join the pork tenderloin and filet mignon.

There is a tavern menu for more casual fare. The fish in the fish and chips was beer battered, crispy outside and moist and tender inside. We discovered that a special request, a lobster roll from the lunch menu, was possible. Lobster rolls have been a staple at the Club for years. The lobster was good but a bit stingy on quantity.

For smaller appetites or to start, Josh has added a delicious assortment of small plates including warm olives, edamame hummus and crab cake. Although I missed the traditional brothy and garlicky version, the Steamed Blue Mussels were tasty with a bit of fire from a liberal dose of pepperoncini.

If you've got kids, particularly hungry boys, you don't want to miss Pasta Night on Mondays. The all-you-can-eat buffet includes a colorful salad, hearty Italian specialties and a made-to-order pasta bar. Pasta Night is definitely my nephews' favorite place for dinner. And if (should I say when) they get bored, the lawn behind the restaurant is perfect for a game of sprinkler tag while grandpa pays the check.
