The Sap House Meadery's Dry Hopped Blueberry Mead

The Sap House Meadery in Center Ossipee offers a variety of meads for sipping and recently won an award for their Sugar Maple. Mead is an alcoholic drink made with fermented honey and often with seasonal fruits. The honey imparts a sweet and, to some, cloying back note though it ranges from dry to semi-sweet to sweet.

This dry-hopped blueberry dials back the sweetness in favor of a hoppiness found in beer to round out the balance — key in mead making.

The Sap House also offers a variety of other creative flavors and will soon come out with one made with kombucha tea. This fermented tea is very vinegary, so the outcome could be very interesting balance of sweet and sour. Mead can be drunk room temperature, on the rocks, chilled, warmed or mulled.
