The Mill Fudge Factory

Spend a sunny afternoon at this Bristol favorite

If you are seeking a dose of happiness, look no more. The Mill Fudge Factory at the square in Bristol is housed in a 1798 grist mill and offers something to make everyone happy.

Hand-crafted artisan fudge, full blackboard list of ice cream flavors, fresh salads, paninis, quesadillas, soups from the Concord Co-op, locally made ravioli and coffee roasted at Café Monte Alto in Plymouth for great espresso, plus beer and wine.

All the fudge is made on the premises from an old family recipe. The texture is smooth and buttery and not too sweet. Flavors range from the classic to the spirited with Scottish Whiskey and Penuche infused with Bailey’s Irish Cream and layered with Belgian white chocolate. Holiday Mint, Bunny Tracks and Pumpkin Pie are among the featured seasonal flavors. Fudge truffles come in a variety of flavors, including Grand Marnier and Raspberry Chambord. Recently they were named one of the top five fudge companies in America by culinary personality Paula Deen. Ice cream is made totally from scratch on site and the hot fudge sauce is just that, melted fudge. Real fruit, candy and pie chunks can be swirled into your scoop flavors for additional happiness.

The café seats 40, more in the summer months when the porch opens, affording a spectacular view of the Newfound River. If you visit on a Friday evening, you can catch the open mic entertainment in the back room. Saturday evening concerts range from rhythm and blues to Gumbo Diablo (July 19). An admission fee is charged for the Saturday evening performances.

The Factory is community-oriented, with a fund-raising program where organizations such as local schools, teams and others can sell the fudge. The program to date has raised more than $24,000 for local organizations.

Noah Munro, co-founder and CFO (Chief Fudge Officer!), wants the café to be a place where families make memories. The motto is “Make People Happy.” After a sampling, it's not hard to be very happy.
