Table Talk 2010

An event that’s never at a loss for words.

Fundraising events can be a bit dry or formal. But when you are raising bucks for a creative institution like Manchester’s Palace Theatre, you’ve got to think creatively. That’s what organizers Emily Shakra and Courteney Demeritt did when they launched the first “Table Talk” last year.

Year two of the gala dinner party was held March 5 at the Derryfield Country Club. The event takes its name from the fact that each table in the room has been lavishly decorated by a business or organization that is also a donor and friend to the Palace Theatre. Decorations are sometimes so over the top that you might imagine yourself in a certain 3-D version of Alice in Wonderland.

“The idea was to give everyone a chance to show off their own companies and their support of the Palace,” says Shakra.

“And we wanted everyone to be glad they came.”

Mission accomplished on all counts. Spirits at the party were high, conversations went on into the night and more than $18,000 was netted for Palace youth theatre programs. The two tables above were chosen by Rick Broussard, editor of this magazine, and by Leslie Rifkin of L. Newman Associates/Paul Mansback Inc. as the best decorated.
