Notable trend: Solar installations are occurring in New Hampshire and throughout New England at a relatively rapid pace, and are enabling more electricity customers to mitigate the region's high electric rates with a locally produced clean-energy resource. While on-site solar energy production may benefit consumers and the environment, it presents operational challenges for the region's grid operator, economic challenges for local electric distribution companies, and difficult legal and policy issues for regulators and other stakeholders. It behooves stakeholders to find collaborative solutions to their competing interests; otherwise, these issues will be litigated before administrative agencies or the courts or decided by the legislature.
