Lexie’s Joint is definitely very good. It’s a go-to place for me. They’re small burgers so you can order two and get something very creative for each. The toppings and combos are always unusual.

603 Burgers in Rye is terrific and is located in a very welcoming little seaside shack. It opens again for the season in May.

The Juice Burger food truck out of Dover is wonderful too. They also open for the season in the spring.

Then there is Popper’s at the Mill in Newmarket. Chef and owner John “Popper” Medlin does a Huis Burger with onion marmalade, bacon jam and red dragon cheddar, which is very good.

The new 7th Settlement in Dover has a house-ground sirloin burger with bacon and aged cheddar. They make their own ketchup, and you can add all sorts of things to it such as pickled onions or overnight tomatoes.

And yes, I do like the burger at The Rusty Hammer in Portsmouth. It’s a classic and they pack a lot of flavor in the meat.
