What or who inspired you to become a lawyer?
I knew from a very early age that I wanted to be an attorney. I must be a glutton for punishment, because I remember watching “The Paper Chase” as a child and I was enthralled. As I got older, I questioned whether law was the right choice. I decided to intern at a law office in high school and met an amazing female attorney who not only confirmed for me that I wanted to become a lawyer, but she became a mentor to me as I made my way through college, law school and the search for the right employment after law school.
The most pressing issue facing the legal profession?
Despite efforts to make the court system accessible, I am very concerned that the system is overwhelming for many people without legal assistance, and legal assistance is often cost prohibitive.
Your favorite fictional lawyer and why?
There are many wonderful fictional attorneys, however my favorite is Vinny Gambini from the film, “My Cousin Vinny.” He reminds me that, regardless of what they tell you at law school, street smarts and persistence can go a long way. He also reminds me that no case is won until it is won.
What do you do outside the office?
When I am not in the office, I am typically shuttling my 9 and 12 year old to their activities or getting our puppy, Koa, the exercise he needs. Koa and I go for long walks every day. It gives me an opportunity to unwind, appreciate my surroundings and think about important issues other than work.
