Portsmouth Little League

The True Boys of Summer

This summer all eyes were on 13 boys from Portsmouth — just the fourth New Hampshire team to ever go to the Little League World Series, or as coach Mark McCauley calls it, “baseball heaven.” Only eight teams from the U.S. make it to this pinnacle match. “To even think you could be one of them is beyond reality,” says McCauley. “But when you finally realize you’re going … when you get off the bus in Williamsport and look at Lamade Stadium … it’s just an amazing moment.” They didn’t make it to the championship game, but the boys’ amazing run continued into the semi-finals.

New Hampshire Magazine knows where “It” is at. Each November, we identify the state’s most happening people and publish their names and profiles in our annual “It List.”

So what defines an “It” Person?

How about buzz, panache, je ne sais quoi, currency,  a person whose time has come, a person of tomorrow, a timeless person, noteworthy, below the radar, in the news, in the know, hot, cool, high impact, slippery, a mover and shaker, a humble saint, a behind-the-scenes operator, a scenery chewer, an unsung hero, a hero who knows how to sing.

It’s a quality that’s hard to define, but you know it when you see it.
