Ever dream of going to buy the day’s catch right off the boat? Happily, it’s now possible through NH Community Seafood’s CSF — Community Supported Fishery.

Very much like a share in a local farmer’s CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) people buy a share for fish fillets or whole fish picked up every week for eight weeks. Pick-up locations are in Portsmouth, Rye, Dover, Durham, Tilton and Manchester.  Explains Joshua Wiersma, Ph.D., co-founder and NH Fisheries sector manager, “It's important to note that all of our fish is ‘day boat’ fish, which means that it was landed the same day it was caught by our fleet of smaller, family-owned and -operated fishing boats.”

There are four eight-week "seasons" planned. The inaugural season started in June. The second season begins August 5 and will run until the end of September. The third season will start around the beginning of October and the fourth season will start at the beginning of December. Species landed in August and September include: pollock, cod, white hake, monkfish, Arcadian redfish, Gulf of Maine yellow tail flounder, American plaice, Maine winter flounder, silver hake, dogfish and butterfish. If demand is there, another season may be available during February and March, which may be a shrimp and scallop CSF.
