“Mito-Kids” and “Deaf Perception” Benefit Screenings
On June 24 you can catch screenings of two short films – the award-winning “Mito-Kids: Documenting Life” and “Deaf Perception” during a fundraising event held at Red River Theatres in Concord.Show times are 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Last year, Marc Dole, CEO and founder of Portsmouth’s Hatchling Studio, along with his wife Wanda Dole and business partner Karlina Lyons, produced “Mito-Kids,” a documentary about life in the Dole home. All four of the Doles’ daughters have mitochondrial disease – a suspected underlying cause behind many disorders, including deafness, diabetes, Parkinson’s, cerebral palsy and more (to learn more about the disease and the films, see our recent story “Double Visions” or visit www.MitoKids.org).
Following in their parents’ footsteps, two of the Doles’ daughters created “Deaf Perception,” which was written and directed by the youngest of the “Mito-Kids” Alyssa, and stars her twin sister Ashley.
Both films will be presented with open captions for the enjoyment of both hearing and deaf audiences. The screenings will be followed by Q&A sessions with the family and filmmakers.
