Lakes Region Fall Foliage Tour for Motorcycles or Cars
Lake Winnipesaukee offers an incredible backdrop to fall's splendor.
Region: Lakes Region
Route: The great thing about Lake Winnipesaukee is that you can start your road trip at any point and just circle the lake.
This is a 115-mile loop that has “great views, sweepers, twisties, elevational changes and classic New England scenery,” reports the New England Riders organization.
The NH Department of Resources and Economic Development suggests starting in Alton at the southernmost point, heading to Alton Bay, and then circling the lake clockwise through the towns of Gilford, Weirs Beach, Meredith, Holderness, Center Harbor and Moultonborough. Patriot Guard Riders member Fred Sanborn recommends stopping at Naswa Beach Resort on Weirs Beach for “drinks and a bite.”
Restaurants: Patrick’s Pub & Eatery in Gilford gets a thumbs-up from PGR riders Barbara and Ron Filteau. Naswa Beach Resort has two restaurants: Blue Bistro and the NazBar & Grill. Try the Weirs Beach Lobster Pound too. Ashland has The Common Man. The Corner House Inn in Center Sandwich serves comfort fare in a rustic pub. PGR member Bob Dorey recommends that BBQ and rib lovers chow down at the Yankee Smokehouse at the intersection of Rtes. 116 and 25 in West Ossipee.
Fun thing to do along the way: Squam Lakes Natural Science Center
