Granite Gang – Super Secret Project

With a run of YouTube hits on their hands, New Hampshire’s Super Secret Project has gone viral. This time they’re rapping an ode to everyone’s best friend in this last blizzard-packed winter: “The Plow Guy Boogaloo.” The video features parodies of Jay-Z’s “Run This Town,” Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” and the Dr. Dre/Tupac collaboration “California Love.”Just like in their break-out viral hit “Granite State of Mind,” New Hampshire plays the lead role, but it’s star studded with cameos from comedian Sarah Silverman, actor Mike O’Malley, documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, Governor John Lynch and other local luminaries. SSP member Billy Donohoe (above right) plays “The Plow Guy,” while Christian Wisecarver (above, center) reprises his rap stylings and guest singer Holly Winchell (above, left) again provides soaring back-up vocals and sex appeal. The following interview was conducted with Wisecarver in March, when plow guys everywhere were still local celebrities.Your new video seems to be taking off. It’s doing really well. The first one is at just about two million views now and has opened so many doors for us, so we thought it would be cool to make a sequel. They say with sequels you should make everything bigger and introduce a new character, so we went in with that mind set.So, has all that fame translated into fortune? No fortune yet. Still coming up with most of our lyrics while commuting to work. Was it hard getting all those N.H. celebrities to agree to appear? We had to work around Mike O’Malley’s flight schedule, and we had to work around Gov. Lynch being a really, really busy guy, but everybody who we got on board was really gung ho. Sarah Silverman requested a copy of the song but I didn’t know if she would do it or not. One day I came home to a file in my inbox of her lip-synching in her kitchen.Any one you really wanted but couldn’t get? It would have been great to be rapping in front of Dean Kamen with his hands in the air, but I think the shot of my Segway-riding skills were sufficient. So is Hollywood calling yet? We shot a glorified cameo in the upcoming Anna Faris/Chris Evans movie “What’s Your Number?” And we are currently developing an indie feature with New Hampshire filmmakers Glenn Gardner and Alfred Thomas Catalfo. Also working on a television pitch and some other projects, so we are staying busy for sure.Think N.H. has got enough material for a “Granite State of Mind 3” or have you pretty much tapped it? I really don’t think I could come up with enough stuff to do another one, but if we did, it would probably have to be in 3-D.
