Beautifully Rustic – Best in Show

Full of character, this three-floor beauty of a home was built to capture Canadian architecture of the 1600s and of the 1920s and ’30s. The spectacular stone exterior, reminiscent of Quebec’s early 17th-century Norman-style buildings, is paired with Montreal’s 20th-century designs to create a home that achieves warmth and class. The House on Goose Pond boasts a granite exterior that was built using Corinthian Granite. Inside, the spacious kitchen spills into the great room, enhancing social interaction between the hosts and their guests. The second level of the home consists of four large bedroom suites, two of which contain partially-exposed heavy timbers that capture the beauty and strength of the home. A third floor, which functions as an exercise/study/office, features a “crow’s nest” lookout for viewing the quiet pond. Traditional and beautifully rustic, this home by Old Hampshire Designs is a dynamic property sure to foster serenity and happiness.

Green Gables on the Lake

Stylish and spacious, this Lake Winnipesaukee home offers 5,184 square feet of space including five bedrooms and five baths. The site of the home was chosen specifically for its breathtaking mountain views. One of the highlights of this Adirondack-style home is its six-column covered entrance with nearly full-length windows. Rustic and modern, this house was built by Stabile Homes with energy-efficient materials and a goal of creating a low-maintenance living area.

Understated Elegance

The detail-oriented clients of this home wanted their living area to match how they live and depict their impeccable style: “understated elegance, not extravagance.” The design of this home makes it easy for the clients to move between the rooms they most frequently used, as the kitchenette, great room, library, bedroom and bathroom are all centrally located. Rooms like the sun room and formal dining room create an escape crafted with elegance.

Rustic Overtones

This mountain-top retreat sits high above the city of Charlottesville, with dramatic views and a timber-framed entry porch that is raised up on a stone foundation. The house’s rustic appearance is enhanced by its red cedar shingle walls and cedar shake roof. High ceilings and few walls create an open and expansive effect as guests enter the home. In the kitchen visitors will find an island with two ovens, a porcelain country sink, cherry flat-paneled cabinets and soapstone counters. The loft upstairs is opened up to the great room by an iron balustrade. A window seat at the end of the stairs, a special touch, is the perfect place to sit, read and see who is coming through the door.

New Construction >> Single Family Detached $800K — $1M

Energy Efficient

This home was built to replace a 1950s house that had a floor plan with features the homeowners liked. However, insulation and windows were not up to current building standards, making the home extremely energy inefficient, and the mechanical systems were sadly outdated. The river side of this home opens up with windows in every living space. The night view shows just how transparent an energy-efficient home can be.

Gem of the Neighborhood

This home’s owner gave Epoch Homes a goal of creating a house that fit with the Arts and Crafts-style homes in the neighborhood. This home, which was built with the modular building system, consists of seven modules in all, and a site-built garage was also added. Crown Point Cabinets of Claremont was called in to design and supply the kitchen, master bath and pantry. With this home the client can easily maintain her work-from-home living style, as her home office is accessible off the foyer. This Greenwich, Conn., Arts and Crafts Gambrel is as magnificent as it is practical.

Spacious and Warm in Northwood

An elegant creation of post-and-beam accents, stone pillars and wainscoting, this dream home stands proud above the lake. The structural cupola and hip roof design create soaring interior ceilings. Geothermal-powered radiant heat echoes the warmth of the natural wood interior and glowing room colors. An heirloom for many generations to enjoy has been born.

Hollis Home

Contemporary meets traditional in this revamped Hollis home. The owners wanted to add an office, expand a guest suite, provide a walk-in closet and master bath to a master bedroom and create a meditation room. With the help of Dennis Mires, P.A. The Architects, the existing building rose to a two-story form with multiple shed roof lines; the concept was to end the form in a new three-level compatible tower. Each space has plenty of natural light and commanding views.

Interior Innovation

With a budget that could not accommodate both an addition to this kitchen and high-end features, David R. Crupi’s team proposed a layout that gave the owners the functionality they needed and the custom look they wanted. An island and breakfast area provide seating, and cherry cabinets that meet KCMA’s Environmental Stewardship Certification drench the room with warmth. The design is visually pleasing, and it provides generous counterspace for food preparation next to strategically-placed appliances.

A House Called “Goosebumps”

With confidence in previously completed work by Village House Interiors’ Maria Perron, the owners of this camp trusted her input on the redesign of their home. Unique designs like the kitchen area’s booth-style seating and the individually-designed bedrooms make this home one that guests frequently praise.

Heart of the Home

The moldings in this kitchen are the main focal point. The ceiling, which is beautifully coffered, makes the room feel even larger than it actually is. Carvings on the island and near the cook-top help those areas stand up and stand out. Another highlighted feature of this kitchen is the wine bar. The Sub-Zero wine refrigerator has a glass front door and two drawers. As functional as it is for entertainment, this kitchen’s desk area and cabinetry makes the space highly family-friendly.

Neutral and Natural

An addition to this kitchen provided enough space for several cooks, a dramatic vaulted barrel ceiling and a place for kids to do homework before dinner. A natural stone back splash plays on the neutral color palette and complements the dark wood floor.

A Whole New Feel

A kitchen renovation for this townhouse has made the whole living space seem full of new potential for the owner. The kitchen has more storage than he was used to, and with its wine fridge and snack bar it is a wonderful environment to cook and entertain in. The kitchen opens into the family room, expanding entertaining space and making it easier to enjoy a TV show while the owner cooks or eats.

Luxury

The owners of this Mr. and Mrs. bathroom knew what they wanted: a shower for two, some private space for each and a design that would mean they could “live in this house forever.” A luxurious walk-in shower separates their personal spaces customized for specific needs. It is designed for beauty, comfort and for aging together.

Remodeling >> Kitchen over $100KBeaming with Delight

The existing beams of this kitchen were hand-sanded and stained to match the new cabinetry. The owners, up for change. discussed with Cedar Mill Group the idea of reversing the kitchen and dining room areas to create a more comfortable environment. Starting over may have seemed like a daunting task, but it allowed the builders to work around frequently-used areas until absolutely necessary, allowing the kitchen to remain fully operational while the changes took place. This dramatic transformation created a space where everyone can — and wants — to be.

Old-Fashioned Charm

The kitchen in this 200-year-old home was outdated and problematic for the owners, a family of six. Details like crown molding, spindle fluting and antique glass doors merge old-fashioned charm with usability.
