Chocolate Desserts to Die For
Is there such a thing as too much chocolate, I ask myself? I can’t think of any logical reason why. In that spirit, let’s go for it. After all, it is the month of love and deep chocolate dreams. Let’s swim into that sea with abandon. Here are some great places to start.

Frederick's Pastries |
Feraco (turtle) Cheesecake |
For a multi-layered extravaganza of chocolate-loving, this dream cake begins demurely with a creamy cheesecake layer, then a layer of soft caramel, pecans and chocolate fudge (think turtle), then steps it up a notch with a layer of dark chocolate cake, a decadent layer of whipped cream and a final naughty glossing of rich chocolate ganache. To top it off, drops of pure fudge and a shower of chopped pecans. |
For smaller appetites, opt for their chocolate lover's cheesecake cup. It has just enough cheesecake, chocolate fudge frosting, chocolate cake and chocolate mousse to carry you to the sofa for a nap. |
Lakehouse |
Bread Pudding with a Chocolate Martini |
OK, so I put two desserts together. But they seem to fit, and why not go over the top? I pair a grown-up chocolate with a kid-friendly bread made with rich dark and white chocolate bread pudding, chocolate espresso crème Anglaise, and homemade vanilla ice cream. |
A little ice cream might be good in the martini. |
White Mountain Cider Company |
Chocolate Peanut Butter Delight |
Sit by the open fire and dip your spoon into this rich chocolate marquis (dark chocolate, butter, cocoa powder, eggs, and cream), house-made peanut butter fluff and chocolate covered peanuts — pretty to look at and fun to eat. |
Take home some of their famous apple cider doughnuts to dunk in your coffee in the morning. |
The Restaurant at Burdick’s |
Chocolate Lemon Cake with a cup of Burdick’s Hot Chocolate |
Elegant thin-layered pastry with chocolate cake and lemon cream, a topping of chocolate limoncello ganache and a powdered cocoa checkerboard top. Light and ethereal enough to stand up to a side order of Burdick’s thick, rich hot chocolate. Do you feel your heart beating faster? |
Dining at Burdick’s in Walpole means you also get complimentary chocolates after dessert with your bill. Nice. More chocolate! |
MT’s Local Kitchen & Wine Bar |
Warm Soft Chocolate Cake |
Nicely bittersweet cake, warm and soft as promised, with fresh strawberries and a vanilla crème Anglaise. A comforting dessert with just the right amount of luxury from strawberries and vanilla cream to put it over the top. |
Go for a double-header. Walk across the street to its sister restaurant, Surf, and have a raspberry white chocolate martini for a second chocolate dessert. |
