Cheap Eats – Miller's Cafe

Miller’s Cafe and Bakery in Littleton is right next to a cool covered bridge right on the Ammonoosuc River. The view from the deck dining for breakfast or lunch here is fantastic, but the sandwiches are even better, especially the unique “flip bread” sandwich. Look into the open kitchen and watch as they cook up the soft “hand tossed” flat bread on the hot griddle, then stuff it and roll it all up with fresh ingredients like sautéed shrimp, roasted corn, tomato and chipotle chive mayo or seasoned lamb, roasted potatoes and curried-mint yogurt. They recommend eating it right there instead of taking it home and it’s wise advice — they taste best hot and dripping with delicious saucy mess.

The quiche selections change every day and a slice is great with one of their salads like the Maytag Apple with dried apples, blue cheese, walnuts and a mango-ginger dressing. Panini sandwiches are on the menu, too, one with roast turkey, bacon and aged cheddar cheese (but be sure to save room for one of their freshly baked pies and tarts for dessert) and for breakfast, steamy scones and buttery croissants. The coffee cake is homemade and huge, perfect with a morning cappuccino or dip a crunchy biscotti in to a cup of espresso for that afternoon pick-me-up, while you listen to the sound of the river rushing by.
