When it comes to lakefront houses, this beautiful Meredith Bay home tops them all. Designed by Flanders Enterprises, this nearly 4,500-square-foot home on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee takes full advantage of its natural surroundings. In fact, the lake can be considered yet another design element of this home that artfully combines nature and construction. Ample deck space and elegant windows allow residents and guests to enjoy the lake from many different areas of the home, both inside and out. The client summed up the quality of the home by saying, “Sublime craftsmanship that needs to be seen to be appreciated.”

Flanders Enterprises, Best of Show, GOLDCustom Family Home – New Construction, $1,000,000 to $1,500,000A family of 10 needs room to grow and a comfortable home where they can enjoy each other’s company. This is exactly what the clients got in their new 7,000-square-foot home. This custom-built home boasts such features as an immense farmer’s porch and a beautiful stone fireplace. The lot the home is situated on was chosen deliberately to help meet the needs of a growing family. The house is near the new Bedford High School and is also close to the town’s baseball fields, tennis courts, public pool and playground.

Shanner Homes Inc., SILVERNew Construction–$800,000 to $1,000,000Lakefront Elegance

When the owners of a 30-year-old summer cottage on Lake Waukewan wanted to make the lakefront property a primary residence, they called Shanner Homes. The project included tearing down the existing house to build a warm and elegant 6,000-square-foot home. The house includes a lake-level finished basement as well as a boat house with office and work space. The outside of the house boasts a wrap-around cedar deck, and European elements like a paver walkway and detailed gable trim give the home an inviting exterior. The home’s interior has an abundance of coffered ceilings and custom mill work by the builder’s expert carpenters. A beautiful handcrafted stairway is the focus of the entrance.

Shanner Homes Inc., GOLDNew Construction–$800,000 to $1,000,000Energy-Efficient Adirondack

The mahogany deck of this home, as well as the balusters and railings, are some of the custom features of this 2,700-square-foot Adirondack-style house. The energy-efficient home has four bedrooms, two and a half baths and an attached garage with cedar doors. The garage also has a handy custom golf cart access point.
Cobb Hill Construction, GOLDNew Construction – Kitchens Over $35,000Functional Beauty

Both the builder and owner of this kitchen wanted its design to be beautiful, but the main focus of the project was first and foremost function. The client wanted to be able to entertain in the kitchen, but cooking was the main influence of the design. Of Italian descent, both the owners’ home and cooking reflect that traditon. An elegant yet functional island in the middle of the kitchen acts as both a work space and seating for five people. Abundant storage space and simple yet refined details fuse functionality and beauty in this custom kitchen. Tones of brown, green and yellow give warmth to this comfortable space.

John Stanek Custom Builders, GOLDNew Construction – Kitchens Over $35,000Old Meets New

Elegance and function meet in this custom kitchen. The clients wanted a design that would lend itself well to entertaining guests while still looking timeless and beautiful. Custom cherry cabinets with bronze hardware are a simple yet elegant design. Granite and marble countertops, along with porcelain tiles inlaid with Italian glass, give the kitchen a one-of-a-kind feel. The juxtaposition of stainless steel appliances and period lighting give the Old World design a modern ambiance.

Colonial Remodel

The owners of this modern Colonial home wanted a mixture of the old and the new in the design for their kitchen. The clean lines of this beautiful and modern Shaker kitchen are highlighted in the brightness of the white cabinets and the combination of modern and antique appliances. A drop-down farmer’s sink and a refurbished antique stove complement the modern refrigerator and stainless steel hood. The warmth of the wood island and floors balance out the white of the cabinets making this a comfortable and welcoming space to be in.

For a family that likes to entertain, this kitchen exceeded their expectations.

Cooking with Ease

After moving walls and rearranging the layout of the home’s first floor, the flow of traffic is now seamless in this 250-square-foot kitchen. A 36-inch corner gas stove and a new double sink situated in a bump-out window make cooking and clean up simple. Stainless steel appliances and rich, wood cabinets bring beauty and understated elegance to this space. An island with a prep center and sink transformed this kitchen into an easy to use space.

Entertaining the Generations

A small kitchen and family room was transformed into a spacious and functional area where multiple generations of the family can interact. The whole family can cook, entertain and enjoy each other’s company in this updated space. A large island with plenty of seating works as both a place to entertain and work.

Function Meets Funky

The client of this project wanted the kitchen to be functional yet funky. This was achieved by creating vaulted ceilings, installing skylights, placing the sink and dishwasher at angles and also using black granite to contrast with the granite of the countertops. Black granite was additionally placed behind the stainless steel hood above the oven to accent it and also to accentuate the angles of the walls and ceilings. The result was a space where the family could cook, do homework and enjoy together. Additional space was added to the kitchen by opening up the kitchen to the dining room.

Garden Oasis

This “Conservatory Bath” was remodeled for the Cancer Benefit Designer Showcase. The bathroom was made to look bigger by painting a faux raised-glass ceiling. This, along with new lighting and bath fixtures resembling branches, give the room an old-fashioned greenhouse feel.

Lakefront Update

After razing the existing 40-year-old lakefront house, the builders created an open concept home with a fireplace and beautiful views of the lake. Cedar shingles, cedar deck, colonial columns and French doors complete the look of this new home.

By gutting the kitchen and updating this 2,400-square-foot lakefront townhouse unit, the homeowners gained a relaxing weekend retreat. The home’s two and a half baths were also gutted and updated. Organic shapes and rustic pieces were contrasted against more modern elements to create a fun and welcoming environment.

Spacious Master Suite

The idea for this project was to take 521 square feet of disjointed space and transform it into a functional and stylish master bedroom and bath suite. Included in the design are a walk-in shower, whirlpool tub, walk-in closet and space left over to create a sewing room.

Sunroom with a View

Both a three-season sunroom and a sunroom-style addition were part of this design plan. In the existing family room, and then also in the new sunroom-style addition, hardwood floors were installed. In both additions, pine tongue-and-grove ceilings with fir beams were added. Large windows were designed to take advantage of the view outside. Both the three-season sunroom and the sunroom-style addition are connected by a deck system.

1930s Restoration

This lake house underwent major restoration in order to preserve the charm of the home’s original era. Built in the 1930s, this house had a full foundation installed, and also underwent major renovations inside and out. Every detail was carefully selected and restored to keep the integrity of the home intact and to also give the house the original feel of the 1930s.

Condos with Functional Style

This project consisted of 15 units in two buildings in Manchester. All units are 1,100-1,200 square feet and come with a garage and storage space. The living room, kitchen, half bath and dining room are all located on the first floor, while two bedrooms and a bath are situated on the second floor. Each unit also has a deck off the dining room area. The projection of the living space above shelters the garage doors, while each entry has a single story scaled roof above it.

Old World Sophistication

The inspiration for this cherry hood was Provence, France. Constructed onsite, it adds an element of Old World sophistication while keeping to the design of the client’s home. Onlay moldings, hand carved corbels, a statuesque crown and a mantelshelf are the rich details that give this project the look of elegant furniture.

Specialty Rooms

Ultimate Wine Cellar

This custom built 3,100-square-foot wine cellar was designed to hold up to 8,000 bottles of wine. The space was created with the storage, display and the owner’s enjoyment of wine as factors. The builder worked with Daniel V. Scully Architects and Vintage, Inc. to create the final product. The wine cellar consists of two separate rooms connected by a tunnel. Lounge areas are also part of the design and are located outside of the conditioned areas for guests as well as the owner to enjoy and taste wine. A full wet bar complete with additional refrigerated storage and a computerized inventory system were also included in the design.

A Cozy Porch

A once cold and uninviting porch was transformed into a cozy and spacious area. Natural colors of stain were chosen to create a cabin-like ambiance and stone accents also lent to the overall feel of a lakefront lodge property. Simple furniture made of natural materials and larger windows to take advantage of the views were installed to create a comfortable atmosphere.

Durable and Elegant

An outdoor kitchen that was strong enough to stand up to the harsh New England winters was the challenge for this design. Durable yet beautiful materials such as chardonnay fieldstone and fir and cedar wood cabinets were used to create a space that could be both fun to entertain in while being tough and weather resistant.

A Touch of Nostalgia

Bringing the past into the present was the idea behind this unique project. A hand pump that had been used for almost 80 years by the client’s family to pump water out of a well was brought inside to be a reminder of times past.

Community Service Project

Extreme Makeover

For a time, New Hampshire’s most famous home was probably the mansion of a Colonial governor, but thanks to a TV show called “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” millions of people know about a home built on a tiny lot on a dead-end road in West Manchester. After losing everything to a freak flood, the Voisine family was certainly in need and deserving of a turn of luck, but what they got was an outpouring of community support that left them (and many of the volunteers) breathless and in tears. The effort to build them a home from scratch in just one week was led by R. J. Moreau contractors, but specialists from virtually every corner of the state came together to make the extreme dream come true. Reggie Moreau says, “The overall objective of the project was to build a sense of community and volunteerism, and that goal was met. The new home, complete with modern appliances, beautiful details and elegant furnishings, shows what can be accomplished through the commitment of a community. Those who worked on the project hope that the spirit of volunteering and community has begun to grow.”
