Thanksgiving Dinners You Don't Have to Cook

Dine out or pick up ready-to-go meals at these NH restaurants, inns, hotels and caterers

Don't feel like getting trapped in the kitchen this year? No one's judging (well, we aren't but we can't speak for Aunt Ethel) if you want to trade in your apron and turkeybaster for a night out and a menu. Here are a few places offering Thanksgiving dinner including some that will bring the feast to you. We promise not to tell if you decide to pass it off as your own.

Hart's Turkey Farm

Since 1954, it's been Thanksgiving every day at Hart's in Meredith. Enjoy a meal out just like Grandma makes (and check out the restaurant's impressive collection of Thanksgiving plates) or order the whole thing to-go. Be warned — each year hundreds of meals are ordered so make sure to call ahead with time to spare. Whether it's Thanksgiving or not, this local institution is not to be missed. There's a reason it's a perennial Best of NH winner for favorite Lakes Region restaurant.

Common Man Thanksgiving Buffets or Order To-go

The Common Man restaurants in Concord, Claremont and Windham plus Foster's Boiler Room in Plymouth and the Lakehouse in Meredith all offer an uncommon buffet on Thanksgiving Day (do check the website for price and menu details as they can vary from place to place). Also, if you find yourself traveling from one set of in-laws to the other, take a break at one of many diners in the Common Man Family of Restaurants — the 104 Diner in New Hampton, the Airport Diner in Manchester, the Tilt'n Diner in Tilton and the Hi-way Diners at the 93 north and south rest areas in Hooksett.

Common Man Restaurants also offer meals to-go. Orders must be placed by November 16 by calling the location where you plan to pick up your order. Each serving includes oven-roasted turkey breast with homemade pan gravy, country mashed potatoes, cornbread stuffing, maple-roasted butternut squash, whole berry cranberry sauce, green beans with almonds, garlic parmesan dinner rolls and butter, sweet bread and a slice of pumpkin pie with cinnamon cream.

Grand Thanksgiving Buffet

Head to the beautiful Mountain View Grand Resort and Spa for the annual Grand Thanksgiving Buffet that's held in the Crystal Ballroom on Thanksgiving Day. The buffet runs from 12 to 5 p.m. with seatings every half hour. Reservations are required and the dress code is business casual. Pricing: ages 13 and older are $65 and ages 6 to 12 are $25. Children age 5 and under eat free. Call (855) 837-2100 for reservations. Thanksgiving specials for lunch and dinner will also be available in the Harvest Tavern.

The Thanksgiving Buffet takes place in the gorgeous Wentworth Ballroom from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a raw bar, carving stations, farm fresh salads, homemade crepes, butternut squash ravioli, crispy braised pork hunter style, roasted local cod, wild salmon and an array of homemade desserts. The Thanksgiving Day Dinner at SALT Kitchen & Bar and the Grand Dining Room is a three-course, prix-fixe plated Thanksgiving dinner. Reservations are required for the buffet and strongly recommended for the dinner. Pricing: adults are $59.95 and children ages 2 to 12 are $26.95.

The Stonehurst Manor

From 12 to 6 p.m., enjoy traditional turkey, Southern-fried turkey, maple-smoked turkey and a whole menu of other offerings from cedar-planked salmon to veal osso buco gremolata. The choices here are wide and elegant for a truly special holiday dinner. Pricing: adults are $38 and children 12 and under are $24 (a children's menu is offered).

Thanksgiving Dinner at The Country Tavern

The Country Tavern in Nashua offers two Thanksgiving options. A full menu, featuring a traditional turkey dinner or entrees like filet mignon and butternut squash ravioli, will be offered for dinner at the restaurant on Thanksgiving Day.

The Red Jacket Mountain View Resort in North Conway consistently snags the family-friendly resort award in Best of NH. They offer a two-night package that includes Thanksgiving dinner, breakfast each morning, admission to the indoor water park, outlet shopping coupons, and a full weekend of activities and events.

Thanksgiving & Shopping Getaway

Combine a relaxing three-night getaway with a Thanksgiving buffet at the Hilltop Restaurant and some Black Friday shopping at the nearby Tanger Outlets. Steele Hill Resorts offers a three-night holiday getaway in the accommodations of your choice and a $25 Tanger Outlet gift card. Package also includes a $10 gift certificate to the onsite Hilltop Restaurant for each night of your stay.

Thanksgiving Prix-Fixe at the BVI

Enjoy a four-course prix-fixe menu served from 12 to 6 p.m. in the Dining Room and Corks. Pricing: adults are $75 and children ages 10 and under are $32.

Thanksgiving Dinner at Epoch Restaurant

The lovely Epoch Restaurant at the Exeter Inn offers a Thanksgiving dinner with a number of options that range from cold foods such as smoked salmon and poached shrimp to hot dishes such as Hubbard squash bisque and roasted Atlantic salmon to accompany the sage-rubbed Thanksgiving turkey and slow roasted sirloin of beef carving stations. Pricing: adults are $49.99 and children ages 12 and under are $14.99.

Grand Thanksgiving Celebration

Enjoy Thanksgiving in high style at one of New Hampshire's gorgeous historic hotels, the Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods. The resort's weekend-long Thanksgiving Celebration features family activities such as the turkey trot, flag football, crafts and a Santa visit in addition to the centerpiece Thanksgiving Day buffet feast. Served from 12 to 8 p.m., the buffet features traditional favorites with musical accompaniment from students of Mila Filatova. For dining at the Mount Washington, you will receive a complimentary lift ticket to enjoy a great day of skiing and riding at Bretton Woods, valid Thanksgiving Day (November 22, 2018). The Thanksgiving Feast is $75 for adults, $35 for children ages 6-12 and complimentary for children 5 and under, and reservations are required by calling the activities concierge at (603) 278-8989.

One-Stop Shop

Let Twelve Pine in Peterborough take care of everything from the cut flowers and wine to the turkey and sides. Their extensive Thanksgiving to-go menu has all the bases covered from a full meal serving 10-12 people to gifts, chocolates, wines, micro brews and more. Whether you just want to order the trimmings or need the whole deal, you can find it here.

Concord Co-op Thanksgiving Orders

Thanks to the chefs at the Concord Food Co-op, you can order a fresh turkey ($25 deposit needed), baked goods or an entire meal, featuring fixings like a 10-pound bird, apple and cranberry herb stuffing, turkey pan gravy, and roasted garlic red bliss mashed potatoes (starting at $179.99 to feed 8-10).

Thanksgiving Day Getaway

This event is still in the process of being updated, but here is information from 2016. The two-night package at the Snowvillage Inn includes a full country breakfast, welcome cocktail, hiking maps, discount shopping coupons and, of course, a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Executive Chef Peter Willis’s Thanksgiving Day menu based on classic New England cuisine with wonderful choices.

Small Town Charm

The Wentworth in Jackson Village exudes small town New England charm. House pianist Rob Robbins will provide music, guests will enjoy a specially printed keepsake menu with an illustration by landscape artist Erik Koeppel (who will be on hand to sign menus) and, based on past dinners, this one will not disappoint. A two-night lodging package is also offered.

Turkey Shortcut

You're still on the hook for the fixings, but a mail order smoked turkey from the North Country Smokehouse at least takes the pressure off when it comes to the main event. We'll let the Smokehouse do the talking: "Our plump, broad-breasted turkeys are marinated in an old-fashioned brown sugar cure for days to enhance the meat’s natural sweetness, then slow-smoked to perfection in small batches over applewood fires. The result is a lean, flavorful bird whose succulent white meat mimics the richness of darker pieces. These fully cooked smoked turkeys can be enjoyed all year round without spending hours in the kitchen.
