On Saint Patrick’s Day everybody is sporting green and heading to pubs for a taste of the Emerald Isle. We searched for the best experiences in the Granite State, so put away your passport and head out for a wee bit of merriment and solid comfort food. Look for live entertainment at these venues too.

Guinness Plus

Heavenly combos of Guinness with Smithwick’s for an Irish black and tan, or try the Guinness with Scotch for a Slim Shady or with Celtic Honey Liqueur for an Irish Honey Cone or even with Champagne for a Celtic Toast. 

    My bet is on the Guinness with vanilla ice cream with Stoli Vanilla Vodka for a really heavenly float.

Tullamore Dew Irish Coffee

Nothing warms mind and body like the combination of good, strong coffee and Irish whiskey. At Rí Rá the coffee is French-pressed for full flavor and sweetened with raw sugar. Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey firms up the body and a generous dollop of stiffened cream smooths it all out.  

 Have your Irish Coffee for brunch along with french toast spiked with Baileys Irish Cream. A fired, sugar crust — brûlée-style — gives it crunch.

Irish Breakfast

Have your eggs any way and they’ll be served with rashers, bangers, black and white pudding, O’Brien potatoes, beans and a biscuit, or skip right to the carbs with beer-infused pancakes. Served Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Bloody Marys are only $3 all day on Sunday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Meatloaf and Mash

The meatloaf is a mix of ground sirloin and Irish sausage. It’s topped with fried onion strings and served with colcannon (potatoes and cabbage), garlic-butter green beans and Guinness gravy for a hearty blend of Irish flavors.

Check out the burger of the day — the 909 ($9.09). It’s the whim of the chef, with creative and  crazy combinations. If it’s Wednesday, enjoy the comedy show that starts at 9 p.m.

Boxty (poor house pie)

Grated potatoes are mixed with mashed potatoes and cream and fried until crisp. Chicken, steak or sautéed mushrooms with a whiskey cream or gravy are added as a filling.

The cozy pub boasts a large selection of Irish Whiskeys and offers sampler combinations.

Salt Hill Fish & Chips

A generous filet of haddock is battered in Smithwick’s beer for a touch of authenticity.

Add in Judy’s hand-battered rings, a slice of green pepper that will remind you of a lucky shamrock.
