A Cure for the Blahs: The Orchid Show

Each year - in the cold heart of winter - lovers of orchids gather in Nashua to show off their very best specimens in hopes of capturing a blue ribbon. They also hope to sell pots of orchids to sick-of-winter show-goers looking for a sign of spring.

This year it's called "Parade of Orchids" and takes place at the 21st Annual Orchid Show at the Radisson Hotel from Feb. 10-12.

"It's a great winter escape and a great Valentine's weekend date," says Mike Mattozzi, president of the N.H. Orchid Society, sponsor of the event. "There are thousands of orchids of all different shapes and colors." Many of them are for sale.

And yes, it's possible to keep them blooming. Mattozzi has orchids that bloom year after year, some that bloom constantly. He and the others at the show can advise you on how to do it (humidity is key).
