autumn_guide

People travel from all over to get a glimpse of fall in New Hampshire. We've compiled a short list of things to do, eat and see that celebrate this great season.

What Else?

This collection of fall finds in New Hampshire is just the beginning. What other events, foods, traditions, etc. do you consider fall musts? Let us know in the comments below, on Facebook or send us a tweet.

The October issue is full of suggestions for enjoying all fall has to offer here in New Hampshire. Below we've collected everything that has to do with autumn - from pumpkin festivals to cider donuts - in one spot to make it easier to get outside during the final months before the snow flies.

Halloween

How Haunted is New Hampshire? Tom Long and Stacy Milbouer grabbed their flashlights and explored New Hampshire's (supposedly) most haunted spots. See what they found and follow in their footsteps - if you dare. "New Hampshire's Most Haunted Places" by Tom Long and Stacy Milbouer.

Get ready for a great costume party with these local Halloween finds. "October Essentials: Local Halloween Must Haves"

See our list of Halloween events for a list of hunted events from the famous Portsmouth Halloween Parade to not-so-scary trick or treating at the Children's Museum.

Foliage

Take in the foliage splendor from the car with these scenic drives.

Work in some military history to your foliage expedition with "Blaze of Glory," a fall guide to military monuments and museums throughout the state. "Blaze of Glory" by John Clayton.

Sweet Spots helps you plan a relaxing weekend amid the glory of autumn color in the lower Connecticut Valley. "Autumn Amble: Tour the Lower Connecticut Valley" by Barbara Radcliffe Rogers.

Food

Oktoberfest is best celebrated with authentic German food and beer, and this month's Slice will tell you all about where to go to fill your craving for Old World cuisine. "Celebrate Oktoberfest With German Food" by Courtney Hoppe.

While you're out on your scenic foliage drive, why not stop at Cider Bellies for a delicious seasonal treat? "Cider Bellies Doughnuts" by Barbara Lauterbach.

Don't have time to travel for donuts? Try making your own cider donuts with this recipe.

Bill Herlicka, founder of White Birch Brewing in Hooksett, recommends that you stop at North Conway's Moat Mountain Smoke House and Brewing Co. for a great fall beer paired with delicious food. See what pairings he suggests in his Libations piece called "Fall in the North Country."
