The Indigo Girls, a benefit concert




The Keefe Auditorium on Elm Street in Nashua will rock to the beat of a different drummer on Saturday, October 22 when the Indigo Girls come to town for a special concert to benefit the upgrading of the venue.

The event is sponsored by the Greater Nashua Arts Initiative, a group of area young professionals, all graduates of the Nashua Chamber's Leadership Greater Nashua program. The group's on-going mission is to support and strengthen the Arts in the Gate City. They chose this project as their first because they feel an established performing arts center is critical for the arts community to thrive.

Decades into their career, the Indigo Girls still amaze conventional pundits with their ability to grow and thrive no matter what the state of the music industry is at any given point. The group began performing together in high school, transferred their honest, urgent performing style onto the stages of countless small clubs, then saw their public profile take off with the 1989 release of their self-titled breakthrough (an album that included the first hit, "Closer To Fine," and went on to win Best Contemporary Folk Recording at the 1990 Grammys).

The group plans to raise $55,000 through the concert to fund a new PA system, improve the acoustics, provide new and more energy efficient stage lighting, and install outdoor signage.
