Colonial Farm Inn and Restaurant - May Quick Look




Three intimate dining rooms are tastefully decorated in keeping with the Colonial Farm Inn and Restaurant's 1836 vintage. The setting is warm and relaxing with light jazz in the background. A screen porch and patio overlooking a garden and stonewalls provide an idyllic summer setting. One might even occasionally hear a resident bull frog from a nearby pond. Last fall, Heidi Greene, after working as the inn's sous chef for several months, took ownership of the six-bedroom inn and restaurant business with her husband Jon. The menus change seasonally with an eye for available local ingredients and there are always nightly specials. Seared scallops and apples with a New Hampshire maple syrup finish and a pepper-crusted beef carpaccio were among the starters at $5 to $9. We enjoyed a duck breast with a cranberry ruby port sauce and a rack of lamb with green peppercorn/ tarragon sauce. A red South African house wine provided a nice balance. Other entrées include a pork tenderloin with caramelized pears and filet mignon wrapped in applewood smoked bacon. Entrées run $23 to $26. Preferring salads after the meal, we enjoyed lemon caper vinaigrette dressed mixed greens. All housemade desserts are $8. - Helen Brody Colonial Farm Inn and Restaurant 499 Andover Rd.
