Prosthodontics was a good fit for Richard Liu. His desire to help people melded with his love of science and art. “I think people are surprised to learn that dentistry, especially prosthodontics, is actually an artistic field,” the six-time NH Magazine award winner said. “You must be able to sculpt the teeth to complement the contours of the mouth. And it takes an artist’s eye to match the color of the crown or filling.” Dr. Liu teaches prosthodontics at the dental schools of Harvard and Tufts, placing him on the cutting edge of the latest technology. This proves a boon to patients in his Newington office who benefit from 3-D Technology, Digital X-Rays, CAD/CAM technology and more. “‘I know what works and what doesn’t,” the dentist said. As a prosthodontist, Dr. Liu specializes in the restoration and replacement of teeth. He often leads teams of other specialists in achieving beautiful smiles and teeth that function properly. “To see the transformation of a person’s smile and self-confidence is very fulfilling,” he said. Dr. Liu brings his knowledge to the international dental community and lectures worldwide. When he’s not working, Dr Liu enjoys spending time with his wife and two children.
