Rick Minard

The Natural If you think the Audubon Society is only “for the birds,” you have not yet met Rick Minard, 51, who took over as president of New Hampshire Audubon in September of this year. The organization has taken a few P.R. hits in recent years, but Minard says the core of the organization is strong. “We start with the kids,” he says, “with terrific environmental education programs all over the state — nature camps, we go to schools, we have field trips, they come to our center. We try to get kids excited about nature and knowledgeable about science.” And Minard believes saving the environment is about human families, too. “If we don’t find housing for people, we won’t be able to protect the habitats for wildlife. We need to consider places for people to live and work as part of our ethic.”

New Hampshire Magazine knows where "It" is at. Each November, we identify the state's most happening people and publish their names and profiles in our annual "It List."

So what defines an "It" Person?

How about buzz, panache, je ne sais quoi, currency,  a person whose time has come, a person of tomorrow, a timeless person, noteworthy, below the radar, in the news, in the know, hot, cool, high impact, slippery, a mover and shaker, a humble saint, a behind-the-scenes operator, a scenery chewer, an unsung hero, a hero who knows how to sing.

It's a quality that's hard to define, but you know it when you see it.

Above is one member of the 2006 It List.
