Maura Weston

Luminous Lobbyist Maura Weston has that glow of purposeful efficiency that comes from someone who not only knows where she wants to go, but how to get there. And she’s been going places since starting as a clerk at the ultra-prestigious law firm of Rath, Young and Pignatelli in 1994. She’s served as finance chair for the state Republican Party (and on the finance committee for George W. Bush for President) but doesn’t fear ticking off the party base, as she did recently testifying in favor of the so-called “Emergency Contraception Act.” She heads up the Old Man of the Mountain Legacy Fund and is on a half dozen other boards for health care and art. “A good day is one in which I feel like I’ve made a difference,” says Weston.

New Hampshire Magazine knows where "It" is at. Each November, we identify the state's most happening people and publish their names and profiles in our annual "It List."

So what defines an "It" Person?

How about buzz, panache, je ne sais quoi, currency,  a person whose time has come, a person of tomorrow, a timeless person, noteworthy, below the radar, in the news, in the know, hot, cool, high impact, slippery, a mover and shaker, a humble saint, a behind-the-scenes operator, a scenery chewer, an unsung hero, a hero who knows how to sing.

It's a quality that's hard to define, but you know it when you see it.

Above is one member of the 2006 It List.
