Farm-to-Café: At The Local Moose in Manchester, they’re serious about sourcing sustainably, ethically and, of course, locally. In fact, during the spring, they closed Mondays in order to prepare their greenhouse for summer. The menu changes as it must when relying on the seasons, but you’ll find things like locally smoked and nitrate-free turkey and bacon on the club sandwich, free-range meats, NH mixed greens and more.

General Store Revival: Josh Enright and Amber Grogan of Roots Catering have given Robie’s Country Store in Hooksett new life. They bring their zest for fresh and organic products to the kitchen, and have dusted off the array of antique decorations and historic photos covering the walls. They also added wine, local crafts and an ice cream bar featuring Richardson’s ice cream and Rock Salt Creamery’s very tasty vegan ice cream.

Innovative Healthy Menu: Rosa Paolini of XO on Elm in Manchester is taking healthy foods seriously. XO’s dips and soups, for a start, are packed with antioxidants, chia seeds and other options that are good for you. Paolini is working with her California chef and Sonia and Kasia from All Real Meal to add nutrition, taste and beauty to her menu.

Kale Salad: Any small town would be proud to have the Harrisville General Store. It’s a non-profit institution that preserves all the best things about the concept of the town store, but defies the “convenience” motif that besets most of them. The food is legendary, colorful and local. You need to check it out personally, but to get you in there, we’ll recommend their healthy, crisp and succulent kale salad.

Strawbery Spinach Salad: Bayona Café in the Jefferson Mill is a hit with those who work in Manchester’s Millyard. If you’re looking for a healthy lunch that’s still tasty, try this salad with sliced fresh strawberries, baby spinach, dried cranberries, pecans, crumbled goat cheese and balsamic vinaigrette.

Turkey Sandwich: A co-worker who fell in love with the Smoked Turkey Rachel Panini at Buckley’s Bakery and Café in Merrimack described it as “so fresh it could’ve been walking out in front of your car like the stupid bird it is just the night before.” He admits that sounds a little weird, but it is made fresh each day on homemade sourdough bread with turkey, cheddar, Russian dressing and cole slaw. The housemade sour pickles, which come on the side, are perfect too — not too sour, but they still pack a nice bite.
