River Fire is presented by the Androscoggin Valley Chamber of Commerce, Berlin Main Street Program, Northern Forest Heritage Park and Theatre North.
The day is filled with events such as the Duck Race on the Androscoggin River at 3 p.m., hayrides, children’s costume parade, bouncy houses and the opportunity to stroll on the RiverWalk lit by warm light from the Tiki torches.
Everything leads up to an evening entertainment, food and drink vendors and finally the spectacular RiverFire lighting ceremony at dusk. Fires will burn on historic boompiers that dot the river, making it appear that the river itself is on fire. These piers were used during the height of the logging era, when they separated and guided the many trees that were sent down the river to the mills of Berlin.
In addition, the Logging Camp will be turned into a haunted village presented by Theatre North. Each year the village grows scarier and more chilling – it promises to be a spooky Halloween experience you won’t want to miss! Horrorfest is for those who are 13 and older.
