North Country Studio Workshops (NCSW) is doing its part to ensure that Granite Staters resist the urge to hunker down this winter. From January 28 through February 2 the organization of professional craft artists will hold its biennial workshop on the campus of Bennington College in Vermont.
This gathering of artists — whose skills range from pottery and print making to jewelry design and sculpting — offers five days of “instruction, inspiration, rejuvenation and camaraderie,” says Executive Director Carrie Brown. “It happens deep in the winter, when New England artists might otherwise be quite isolated,” she adds. The workshop comes at a welcome point in the season that’s usually devoid of such artistic offerings — the Christmas fair season is over and the annual Craftsmen’s Fair in Sunapee is still months away.
The NCSW “brings in faculty from all over the country — people known not just for the quality of their work but for their excellence as teachers,” says Brown. Still, she adds, the majority of artists are from right here in NH. There will be 13 workshops running simultaneously.
