For the eleventh year, hundreds of Seacoast commuters will leave their cars behind to celebrate the annual Bike/Walk to Work Day Friday, May 17, 2013. With spring bringing warmer weather and longer days, it’s the ideal time for commuters to try leaving the car at home and start having more fun getting to work.
On May 17, commuters who bike, ride transit, walk or carpool to work can enjoy one of ten free commuter breakfasts around the region. In addition to a continental breakfast and the camaraderie of fellow commuters, participants in Bike/Walk to Work Day can sign in to enter a raffle of great prizes donated by local businesses.
Confirmed breakfast locations are Dover, Durham/UNH, Exeter, Lee, Newmarket, North Hampton, Pease TradePort, Portsmouth downtown, Rye and Stratham. While most commuters enjoy just one breakfast, some hearty cyclists ride the Tour de Breakfast and stop at all of them.
The week of May 13th-17th will also see the statewide Commute Green NH Challenge, with its “Don’t Drive One in Five” pledge, and the Seacoast Corporate Commute Challenge, which pit Seacoast employers in four size categories against each other for bragging rights.
